The Nardelle Family greatly appreciates your donation, it will greatly help us. Please keep in mind that we received zero federal aid and have no way of survival at this point and our kids and Wife so greatly appreciate your donation, it will help us lead a somewhat normal life which we hope to one day return to. Thank you so very much and god bless you! We are about to lose our business and truck to the finance company and were turned down by the SBA and FEMA and now need your help more then ever. Our utilities are about to be shut down along with everything else we have in service.
Well for me, I started experimenting with high voltage as a kid, I tried everything including building lasers. I still have this excitment that won't seem to go away, I am always looking for something new to try. I happened across Bill Beaty's website not to long ago and that 'spark' was ignited once again. Lets look into some stuff that HV can do and things I have done with it. Remember that this is deadly stuff so don't try this unless you know what you are doing and take proper safety measures, always wear eye and ear protection when working with high energy capacitors and don't forget to discharge before you touch.
1) Ion Motor
2) Capacitor Discharge for blowing up things or launching...
3) Inoized gas
4) Plasma displays
5) Creation of ball lightning, could be possible
6) Lighting lights without wires
7) Creating visual stimulating effects
8) NOT RECOMENDED--Building an X-Ray Machine--DANGEROUS!
9) Tesla coils
10) Fields that change the temporal shape of electric and magnetic waves; The Philadelphia Experiment
11) Railguns
And much much more to come. I will start with the Ion Motor and continue from there and down the list. This month we are going to cover the Ion Motor but other things will pop in as I get to it. I have to take everything from my notes and move it here as well as other experimenters and their notes. Credit will always be given with as much info as I have so the author can be contacted if need be.
Do you like your computer??? Keep these experiments far away from the computer, I warn you from experience.
The Ion Motor
I am going to explain and then provide a diagram for you.
First of all you know that when playing with HV, any object charged will leak or hold the charge depending on certain things. Take a nail and place it on a HV terminal (Tesla coil output or TV flyback output), turn out the lights and look at the corona comming from the point on the nail. What you see is the HV leaking out a sharp point, do the same with a perfect metal sphere, you will see little leakage unless you employ a tesla coil as the HV unit. The reason is that the sphere will contain the charge due to capacitance as the nail will spit it from the point.
Get a legnth of #14 bare solid Cu wire 6" long, bend the ends like you see in the diagram and smash the center of the wire between the ends with a hammer on a flat chunk of steel (Not cement). Take a nail or awl and gently tap a dent (bearing) in the ballanced center of the wire. This must be able to ballance level on a nail point, see diagram.
Get some foil and build a small wall and do not attach to any ground, place it near the Ion motor. Now turn on the power to the HV and keep clear because the wire might fly off and hurt you. Let it run for a min. or so them turn off the power and touch the foil, ZAP! A little charge has built up in the foil from the Ions leaking out into the air. There you have it, a ion motor.
